[Grand Plastic Surgery] Do you remember all the things we said about double jaw surgery?

Do you remember all the things we said about two jaw surgery?

Today we are going to talk about the different techniques used for double jaw surgery.

As we already said last time, this surgery involves the correction of all practical and aesthetic issues by reshaping, resizing and re-positioning the lower and upper jaws, by bringing them in a more natural position.

What are the techniques used for two jaw surgery?

This surgery involves fracturing, reshaping and resizing the jaw bone and obviously is done under general anesthesia. Why is it that obvious? Fracturing and resetting bones is quite hard to do while the patient is not totally sleeping.

There are two methods:

  • [SSRO - Sagittal Split Ramus Osteotomy]

By this surgery method, the surgeon cuts the back of the lower jaw diagonally into two thin plates, the protruding lower jaw bones will then be moving backwards and fixed with medical pins.

This method is more used and popular than the other method that we are going to talk about you soon (IVRO method) because the healing process possible due to wide contact surface between the bones.

  • [IVRO - Intra-oral Vertical Ramus Osteotomy]

This method is more complicated than the SSRO because it doesn't allow even a slight margin of error thus, a skillful and experienced surgeon must undertake this surgery. This method does not perform any type of fixation on the bone so it reduces the chance of jaw joint problems or pain.
In synthesis, this surgery provides the cut of the back of the lower jaw without any fixation, thus it uses the natural recovery and regeneration process of the human body.
